The Scythe (10) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations
A long-handled scythe lying in tall grain, blade forward. The Scythe is the card of the quick cut: a sudden decision, a clean break, a moment when something is settled in one stroke. It is also a harvest card, because a scythe exists to bring in what has grown. The card is short in time: whatever it describes happens fast, and then it is done.
In tradition
Traditionally the Scythe is read as something sudden: a decision taken quickly, an abrupt turn, a separation. Old guides treat it as a reminder about haste, and also as harvest, the moment of reaping what was sown. The inset is the jack of diamonds. The direction of the blade is said to matter: the cards it points toward are the ones being cut. Read beside the Tree or the Garden, the Scythe takes its farming sense more strongly, a season of gathering in.
How Falyora reads it
Falyora reads the Scythe as a decision, never as danger. As the subject of a pair it is the cut, and the second card tells you what gets cut or decided: Scythe then Ring is a commitment settled quickly. As the detail of a pair it makes its neighbour sudden: Letter then Scythe is a short, decisive message, Heart then Scythe a feeling that changes fast.
Very often the Scythe describes a choice you have already half-made. It marks the moment when hesitation stops and the hand moves.
Side by side
The Scythe & The Ring
Scythe then Ring is a fast decision about a commitment: signing quickly, or saying yes without a long wait. Ring then Scythe reads as a bond that is cut instead: a cancelled contract, a partnership stepping back, a promise renegotiated in one conversation.
The Scythe & The Crossroads
Crossroads then Scythe is a long hesitation ended by a quick choice: you stop weighing options and pick one. Scythe then Crossroads is a sudden decision that opens new paths, a cut that leaves you choosing all over again.
The Scythe & The Fish
Scythe then Fish is a quick cut in money: an expense you had not planned, or a decision to stop spending on something. Fish then Scythe is a financial matter settled fast, a bill cleared or an account closed in one move.
The Scythe & The Tree
Tree then Scythe is harvest time: something that grew slowly is ready to be gathered, a long effort reaching its result. Scythe then Tree is the opposite rhythm, a quick decision whose effects take a long time to grow.
