The Bear (15) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations

A large bear, standing upright or walking through a forest. The Bear is the card of strength and weight: power, resources, protection, and the people who have influence over your situation. It can be a boss, a strong personality, a protective figure, or simply a great deal of something. Where the Bear appears, there is real force behind the matter.

In tradition

Traditionally the Bear is read as power and strength, and as a person of authority: a manager, a parent figure, a strong protector. Older guides also read it as finances and savings, since the bear stores up for winter. Some read it as jealousy, or as a person whose strength can tip over into control. The inset is the ten of clubs. In modern practice the Bear is often read together with the Fish as the main money pair of the deck, the Fish as flow and the Bear as reserves.

How Falyora reads it

When the Bear comes first, it is the power or the strong person, and the second card shows what they do or where: Bear then House is someone strong at home, a protective parent or partner. When it comes second, it makes its neighbour big, solid or influential: Fish then Bear is substantial finances, Dog then Bear a loyal friend with real backing.

Weight, not threat, is how Falyora reads the Bear. It shows where the strength in a situation lies, whether that strength is yours or belongs to someone else.

Side by side

The Bear & The Fish

Bear then Fish is resources: savings, a strong financial position, or someone powerful who handles money. Fish then Bear reads as money growing into a solid sum, a business that has become heavier and harder to move.

The Bear & The Tower

Bear then Tower is authority within an institution: a director, management, a firm hand in a large organisation. Tower then Bear is the institution itself as a powerful presence in your life, the system rather than any one person.

The Bear & The Heart

Bear then Heart is protective love, the strong, steady affection of someone who looks out for you. Heart then Bear is a feeling that grows very big, or love that edges toward possessiveness.

The Bear & The Child

Bear then Child is strength protecting something small: a parent with a child, or a large organisation backing a new project. Child then Bear reads as something small that grows strong, an early idea that turns out to have weight.
