The Heart (24) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations

A single red heart, sometimes wreathed in flowers or set in a frame. The Heart is the card of love and affection in every form: romance, friendship, care for family, passion for something you do. It describes what you feel and who or what you feel it for. It is a warm card, and it tends to make the cards beside it more personal than they would be on their own.

In tradition

Tradition reads the Heart as love, affection and emotional happiness. Older guides add generosity, kindness and forgiveness. The inset is the jack of hearts, which in playing-card reading is a young, romantic figure, eager rather than settled. Near the central card of a spread, the Heart is traditionally read as affection close to the matter in question; its neighbours then say whether that love is shared, hidden, growing or fading. With the Dog or the Ring beside it, older readers lean toward lasting affection; with the Clouds or the Snake, toward feelings that are still being sorted out.

How Falyora reads it

Put the Heart first and it is the feeling, with the second card describing it: Heart then Anchor is love that lasts, Heart then Clouds love with doubts in it. Put it second and it makes its neighbour about love or care: Fox then Heart is work you love, Fish then Heart generosity with money.

In Falyora the Heart is read broadly. Not every Heart in a spread is about romance, and the surrounding cards usually make it clear whether the feeling belongs to a partner, a friend, a place, or something you love doing.

Heart then Book is a love kept quiet, or feelings you have not told anyone about. Book then Heart is discovering something about your own feelings, a secret that turns out to be about love.

The Heart & The Mountain

Heart then Mountain is love facing obstacles: distance, family resistance, bad timing. Mountain then Heart is a hard stretch softened by affection, or feelings that grow slowly because of the difficulty rather than in spite of it.

The Heart & The Child

The Heart & The Snake

Heart then Snake is a feeling that takes the long way round: affection mixed with desire, or a love that has to work through something complicated. Snake then Heart is a tangled situation that turns out to be about feelings after all. Tradition often reads a rival into this pair; Falyora reads the complication, not a person to blame.

The Heart & The Fox

Heart then Fox is a feeling held back and managed, shown carefully or only in part. Fox then Heart is a careful plan with affection behind it, like working hard for someone you love. Who is being careful, you or the other person, is something the cards around the pair have to answer.

The Heart & The Coffin

Heart then Coffin is a feeling that is ending or resting: tiredness in a relationship, or the close of an emotional chapter. Coffin then Heart is the reverse, affection returning after a pause. The Coffin closes things; it does not say nothing follows.

The Heart & The Cross

Heart then Cross is love that carries weight: caring for someone through a hard time, or a feeling that asks a lot of you. Cross then Heart is a burden made lighter by affection. Either way it is a load carried by choice.

The Heart & The Tower

Heart then Tower is a feeling kept at a distance, or love inside a formal setting such as a workplace or an official process. Tower then Heart is someone reserved who has real feeling under the structure.

The Heart & The Garden

The Heart & The Ship

Heart then Ship is love across a distance, or feelings that pull you towards somewhere else. Ship then Heart is a trip or a change you have real feeling for.

The Heart & The Tree

Heart then Tree is a slow, deep affection, love with roots that grows over years. Tree then Heart is a long-standing bond, often family, where the feeling is old and steady.
