The Dog (18) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations

A dog sitting attentively, often looking up at someone just off the edge of the card. The Dog is the card of loyalty and friendship: a trusted friend, a reliable person, someone who is on your side. It describes relationships built on trust rather than romance. It can also describe your own loyalty, the people and things you stand by.

In tradition

Tradition reads the Dog as a faithful friend and as loyalty in general. Older guides count it among the most positive person cards, the one you can rely on when others cannot be. Some read it as a helpful colleague or a good neighbour. The inset is the ten of hearts. The Dog's direction is traditionally said to matter in a spread: a dog facing the central card is a friend turning toward you, one facing away is a friendship cooling or a friend whose attention is elsewhere.

How Falyora reads it

Opening a pair, the Dog is the friend or the trusted person, and the second card describes them or what they bring: Dog then Fish is a friend who helps with money, Dog then Book a friend who keeps a confidence. Closing a pair, it makes its neighbour loyal or friendly: Fox then Dog is a reliable colleague, Man then Dog a man in your circle who is first of all a friend.

Of all the person cards, the Dog is the one Falyora treats as most dependable. It describes trust that has already been earned, not trust that is hoped for.
