The Snake (7) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations
A long snake coiled at the foot of a tree or winding across a path. The Snake describes complication: a route that bends, a situation with more layers than it first showed, a person who is clever in ways that are not always easy to read. It is also a card of desire and attraction. Its shape says most of it: nothing about the Snake goes in a straight line.
In tradition
Traditionally the Snake is read as complications, detours and delays, caused by twists rather than by walls. Older guides also read it as a rival or a cunning person whose interests run against yours, and some name a woman in particular, in line with its inset, the queen of clubs. Modern readers often add desire, temptation and a practical, worldly kind of wisdom. Its position matters: a Snake near the central cards is said to describe a tangle close to home, while one at the edge of a spread is a complication that stays on the margins.
How Falyora reads it
In Falyora the Snake is first about shape. Leading a pair, it is the complication, and the second card shows where it sits: Snake then Fish is money matters with fine print. Following another card, it bends it: Ship then Snake is a trip with a detour, Heart then Snake is attraction with strings attached.
Falyora does not read the card as a warning about a particular person. When the Snake turns up, the more useful observation is usually that the direct route is not available here, and that the winding one is how this matter moves.
Side by side
The Snake & The Fox
Snake then Fox doubles the cleverness: a situation where everyone is careful about what they say and nobody quite says it. Fox then Snake is self-interest that gets tangled, a shortcut that turns into a longer route than the honest one would have been.
The Snake & The Crossroads
Snake then Crossroads is a complicated choice, options that all come with conditions attached. Crossroads then Snake shows a decision whose consequences wind around: you choose one thing and it quietly brings two others with it.
The Snake & The Heart
Snake then Heart is desire turning into feeling, an attraction that becomes something you actually care about. Heart then Snake is love with complications in it: jealousy, an old story that has not been put away, or simply two people wanting different things.
The Snake & The Book
Snake then Book is a complication nobody has explained yet; the reason behind the tangle is still unknown. Book then Snake reads as knowledge used with skill: expertise, strategy, or a confidential matter being handled carefully.
The Snake & The Letter
Snake then Letter is a message that takes the long way: careful wording, a document with conditions, a reply that needs reading twice. Letter then Snake is news that makes a simple matter more complicated.
The Snake & The Sun
Snake then Sun is a complicated path that ends well: the detour was worth it. Sun then Snake is success that comes with conditions, a good result that still needs some careful handling.
Related cards
The Snake is honest about one thing that the straighter cards are not: some matters only move by curving. It shows the bend in the road, not the end of it.
