The Man (28) in Lenormand: meaning and combinations

A man standing in full figure, usually well dressed and turned to one side. The Man is a person card: he stands for one specific man in your circle, and the cards around him describe who he is and what part he plays. On his own he says very little. His meaning comes almost entirely from where he stands and what he is facing.

In tradition

Traditionally called the Gentleman, the Man is read as an important man in the situation: a partner, a relative, a colleague or a friend. Older guides read him through his direction. The cards he faces are what he is looking toward or thinking about; the cards behind his back are what he is leaving or not paying attention to. The inset is the ace of hearts. Tradition also pays close attention to the distance between the Man and the Woman in a spread, reading closeness as a connection between two people.

How Falyora reads it

Falyora reads the Man as someone already in your life, never as a stranger who is on the way. As the first card of a pair, he is the subject and the second card says something about him: Man then Fox is a man focused on work, Man then Dog a man who is a loyal friend. As the second card, he is the person a matter concerns: Letter then Man is a message from him or about him.

Who he is depends on the question you asked and the cards beside him, and the card leaves that open on purpose.

Side by side

The Man & The Woman

Man then Woman describes two people connected in some way: a couple, colleagues, siblings, depending on what surrounds them. Woman then Man shows the same pair with the reading following her first. The order changes whose part is told first, not that they share one story.

The Man & The Heart

Man then Heart is a man with strong feelings: warm, affectionate, emotionally involved in the matter. Heart then Man is someone your own feelings go toward, a man you care about, whatever kind of care it is.

The Man & The Bear

Man then Bear is a man with influence or strength: a boss, a protective presence, someone whose word carries weight. Bear then Man is power that takes the shape of one particular person.

The Man & The Clouds

Man then Clouds describes a man who is unsure, or whose intentions are hard to read. Clouds then Man is your own confusion about him: who he is to you, or what he actually wants.

The Man & The Anchor

Man and Anchor describe a man in his work: steady, committed, defined by what he does. If the Man is you, the pair is about your job and how much of you it holds.
